Mark, since 2017, I have been fighting back, staying informed, learning lots more about courts, laws, norms, rules, ethics, Oath of Office, lying, "doublespeak," essentially how similar Nazi techniques and trump/GOP/SCOTUS/Federalist Society are to each other. Orwell's "1984" was on my mind and on my lips back in 2017. The formulas are simple and effective if you have a major political party, uber-wealthy dark money, media, corrupted, unethical snail courts/justice, white collar crime laws stating there are no victims so lax enforcement and many settlements, immunity of POTUS from prosecution during administration and now immunity from our laws after leaving office for "official acts?"
I volunteered, always vote, donate to candidates outside my BLUE state, been "in it" since 2017. All the "Town Criers," "Chicken Littles," in the US and world will not stop a POTUS, GOP, Congress filibuster vote, confirmation vote, reversal of SCOTUS precedents, a stop to gerrymandering, a rising maternal death rate because abortions are illegal in some states, and normal health care is denied females until death is imminant etc.
trump/GOP/Oligarchs/Federalist Society/MAGA have no shame or conscience to appeal to. They have won by being this way-why change?
Impeachments didn't work, court cases didn't work, Mueller investigation didn't work and DOJ refused to indict trump for interference with the Mueller investigation and justice. Taxes went to Durham investigation, J6 Congressional Investigation, FBI/DOJ cases for stolen secret docs-obstruction of justice again and conspiracy, instigation of seditious, insurrection 1/6/2021. ALL our taxes to be drawn out, neutered by 2024 Election and SCOTUS immunity for the KING's official acts in and out of office.
This is the reason many have tuned out. WE are now fried from reacting to each new assault. We saw this coming and took non-violent actions. We did all the right things. INSANITY is repeating the same actions over and over again and expecting different results. There is no shame, no laws, no check or balance, no recourse to filibustering of 41 Senators, no protection from dictators in what WE were doing. NEW TACTICS! NEW LEADERSHIP for non-violent revolution like Gandhi, MLK,
Pay closer attention to economic power. USians are really, really bad at this -- it's one reason we've never had a labor party worthy of the name. Go back to the Reagan administration tax cuts and union-busting (the now-famous Lewis Powell memo of 1971 is helpful here), then advance to the rise of ALEC and the Citizens United decision (2010). By 2017, the horse had escaped the barn and, yes, chasing a loose horse is exhausting. If only the barn had been secure enough to keep the horse contained.
So true. And here are two groups I'm especially angry at:
1. the armchair/keyboard activists constantly complaining Democrats aren't doing enough and should be engaging, apparently, in the same hateful, lawless tactics Republicans are always pushing.
2. a certain group of mostly white male politicians, both self-styled "progressives" and "centrists," nattering on about how the Democrats lost because they didn't have a "message" that appealed to the "working class." I have so much to say and so much rage about this because it is so clear that they mean "blue collar white men," and what they are really saying without using the word is that Democrats are too "woke," and should not be so blatant about urging justice, rights and opportunity for women, people of color, LGBTQ+ people and anyone else not a straight white male. As Trump parties with billionaires, they (supposed on our side) say we're appearing too "elitist."
Bernie Sanders is the worst. Apparently for these folks, only white men are truly "working class," but not the army of Black women who are teachers, principals, social workers, nurses, doctors, home health care workers, beauticians, small business owners and more. And appealing to them hurts the fee fees of all those white men.
And here's the thing of it, right here in Ohio: Our senate candidate (Sherrod Brown) talked about NOTHING but things to help all working people, and when his opponent (the execrable Bernie Moreno) made his main campaign message "trans people are coming to molest your daughter," Sherrod didn't respond (because then HE would've been accused of making the campaign all about trans people). And Moreno's "message" worked. He offered nothing for working people; he didn't need to. Hate sold. There was literally nothing Sherrod could've done to push back on this. What's your response to THAT, Bernie Sanders?
Hi, I'm in the Bluest state in nation, VT. I wrote postcards/letters to voters in Ohio and for Sherrod Brown particularly. I hear what you say about the defining of working class so carefully so as not to mention females, LGBTQ, immigrants as producers of taxes, GDP and equal in all respects to freedoms, perks of white males. Sorry, Sherrod didn't win and my other swing state contacts seemed futile in retrospect. I am ready for direct non-violent resistance like advocated by MLK, Gandhi, Icelandic women (look that one up-amazing effects) . Carry on with passion.

Great analogy and references to our history.
