Were I a reporter or editor, I’d refer to it as the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. While the reference to the classic 1920 German horror film may be obscure to many, it’s awfully appropriate…

“The film thematizes brutal and irrational authority. Writers and scholars have argued the film reflects a subconscious need in German society for a tyrant, and is an example of Germany's obedience to authority and unwillingness to rebel against deranged authority.”

Thanks for highlighting the daily absurdities of Trump and his cabinet and also the mainstream medias normalization of his follies.

That psychosis is why I call them psychophants.

I do disagree with your optimism (see my Substack). I do reinforce statements about greatest risk comes when cornering of wild animals. I wrote that Republicans aren't even in any corner. They continue to outfox and out yell and out-communicate opposition politicos.

In addition to your efforts to hold journalism accountable, we can’t let any federal officeholder—or anyone running for Congress or governor—off the hook for staying quiet right now. With all due respect, I shouldn’t be hearing only from journalists and writers like you sounding the alarm. I should be hearing from my statewide and congressional candidates every day about the dangers you’ve laid out. Silence in this moment is complicity, and voters deserve leaders willing to confront what’s happening before it hardens into something far worse. I think you two can do a better job at this than in my Substack today.
