Trump apologists shrug his statements off as jokes (the first defense of any bully: “can’t you take a joke?”). but many of his *actions* in the capacity of his role as *president* were in alignment with those statements. His attitude of “I am the law” played out again and again. Coordinating with Russia and attempting coercion against Zelenskyy for personal political gain; and organizing and inciting an insurrection (resulting in the Mueller Report which was quashed by obstruction and a corrupt AG, as well as two impeachments which were also mitigated by fearful allies in the Senate).

All 10 living former Secretaries of Defense (including his own) publicly expressed their concern that he might use the military to invoke martial law after the 2020 election.

More than 70 Republican former national security officials expressed their concern about his current campaign, saying he “has engaged in corrupt behavior that renders him unfit to serve as President” and noting, among many other things that he has "solicited foreign influence," "aligned himself with dictators," "undermined the rule of law," and "imperiled America's security."

Trump’s *actions*, as observed by other sworn officials, are in alignment with those of an aspiring dictator.

Thank you, Mark. So on target, clear to understand, hope even for magats! All the news/opinion writers are doing an honorable service of informing fellow Americans of the impending doom and destruction of our democracy and world order for that matter. Too bad some are beyond reach.

Very well said, the people speaking up is not a bad thing for democracy. On the contrary it is millions of voices screaming about the two-tiered judiciary. One for the “haves” and another more medieval one for the plebs or “have nots”. It’s about speaking up about a conservative Anglo-American GOP which is fundamentally Christian, live and let be and equality for all, however they do not agree in equality under the law of man (to borrow from the still very relevant Alexis De Tocqueville). The media needs to shake off their bought and paid for bosses and disseminate truth.

It would help if the Substack ‘commentariat’ would dwell on the Supreme Court case to disqualify Trump.

Some of the biggest megaphones are on Substack. They could stop blaming the media and use their voices to educate their followers about the history of Section 3 and how it is relevant to the Rebellion of January 6.

Clear, precise and to the point. I’d like to add two more reasons. 13) Tr*mp was already in office and showed us EXACTLY who he is and how he “governs”. His handling of the pandemic alone, was criminal. 14) His agenda IS the GOP agenda that is well-funded by billionaires and corporations. The efforts to rewrite the Constitution and roll back generations of civil advances are nothing new and have long been the goal of “conservatism”. IMO Tr*mp is a tool that’s both using and being used by rightwing extremists, foreign and domestic, to dismantle American democracy. He’s a huge threat, but he’s not acting alone. Whoever the Republicans nominate and possibly get into the office of President, will follow their dangerous agenda. Media needs to start stating this. Regardless of their personal feelsies towards Republicans, and not wanting to insult friends/family/bosses, etc., they must understand that the Republican Party, as a whole, is not operating in good faith and has been masking anti-democratic values for decades. The ghosts of the Confederacy would be proud of how their mission to divide and dismantle is still alive and kicking under the misleading euphemistic guises espoused by Republican “values”. There’s nothing “pro-life” about doing nothing to keep schoolchildren safe from gun violence or devaluing the lives of women, migrants and refugees. There’s nothing “fiscally responsible” about bankrupting Americans. There’s zero “freedom” in taking away the rights of citizens to have personal autonomy, education, access to healthcare, and the right to vote. They’re putting lipstick on rising fascism and calling it a quirky democracy.

Hello? Mark is doing what an accountable citizen does, sounds the alarm, loudly and repeatedly. Are we listening? What we are witnessing is the by-product of Citizens United decision along with other attempts at kneecapping our democracy. We are in a war. Not the clash of military forces but the assault of the minds of the decent common ordinary citizens. This is by design and is well funded for a specific outcome. What might that be? If you are marinating your grey matter in the sauce of disingenuous journalism you are doing yourself a disservice and diminishing your self-respect. One of the litmus test I use for gauging the integrity of politicians is if they extol the virtues of democracy. What is in the hearts of those that never approach this subject? This alleged political entity labeled GOP #GatheringOfPutiners are on a trajectory that is shameful, but does that matter to them? We can rise up and be those people we having been waiting for or we can regress into our worse fears. What did FDR say about fear? Our answer?
