“In an editorial in January, the Washington Post gave a thumbs-up or a thumbs-down to each of Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks. Among those who got an endorsement was Pam Bondi for attorney general:”
Seriously? What happened to WaPPo refusing to endorse any candidates; or was it just for Harris?
I cancelled my subscription after I saw the op-ed pages turn into a Trump apologist, while they continually sane-washed Trump’s most nefarious and bizarre behavior during the run-up to the election.
And if I recall, Bezos sent out a memo stating that the opinion pages would stay neutral, and only focus on libertarian and free market issues. I guess a lot changed in a few months! IMHO…:)
Pam Bondi has always been a corrupt partisan and MAGA mouthpiece. She was a part of why the Trump Foundation was shut down. Does the Washington Post have no reporters who can unearth this not-particularly-hidden information? She's probably the least qualified attorney general in U.S. history.
I'm not holding my breath waiting for the Washington Post to apologize. I let my subscription end in December and have put my money into supporting various Substack offerings (my first was The Contrarian) and becoming a paying member of Democracy Docket.
Elias at Democracy Docket and other lawyers fighting the good fight, such as Norm Eisen and Democracy Forward. We should all be supporting them as much as our finances allow
While Cory Booker has recently located a spine, he did vote to confirm Scott Bessant to head Treasury. And Andy Kim, my other Dem senator from New Jersey, voted to confirm Christi Noem for DHS. Democratic senators should have known that not single Trump nominee deserved to be confirmed. BTW I canceled my Wapo subscription not because it will have any effect on Bezos's riches, but because I no longer trust what they print. Apparently Bezos gets his wealth from Amazon and in particular Amazon Web Services. He does not profit from WaPo
Voting records get ‘lost’ in any given week (as there’s so much going on).
We cancelled WaPo and the NYT (#BrokenPost and #BrokenTimes as they’ve been called) - but our various representatives records, Senate votes for confirmations need to be kept in mind. Rubio (unanimous!?!?), Bessent, Gabbard, Noem, et al - and most of us can’t get answers beyond vague noises about ‘bipartisan’….
Our ostensible “fighter”/”warrior”/whatever the hell some are calling her these days (Slotkin - MI) WILL NOT and has not answered constituents’ questions about any of her votes, either (hell, she’s answered no questions - she seems to just make speeches when cameras are on?)
We need to keep applying pressure. Keep information in front of the public.
While I appreciate Booker’s efforts in his… well, it wasn’t quite a filibuster but it was epic - and appreciate those who supported him in that and this “sit-in” -
I've been calling my senators and representatives twice a week ever since Trump won the election. I learned that you should make one separate call per issue, rather than giving your opinion on a few different issues on the same phone call or email. The staffers who log the calls can only record one opinion per call. Email is not my favorite because you have to select from their list of topics when you go to their site and I never saw "cabinet nominees" listed as a topic. If they are swamped with calls during the daytime you can often leave a message in the evening or try calling a local office as opposed to their DC office
I heard that Bessent and Rubio got Democratic Senators votes because they were supposed to be the adults in the room. I think that's BS because anybody nominated by Trump did not deserve any Democratic senators' votes. As for Elissa Slotkin, I'm not sure what's up with her, but much of Michigan went for Trump. That may explain why she tries to be middle of the road. As for Fetterman I wonder if he's a DINO. Or maybe he planned all along to run as a Republican in the future
Slotkin was viewed as “the better choice” over Rogers - at the time of the election.
Do you have another perspective or suggestions that Rogers would have benefited from the “better” choice? And please show your work as an election consultant as you are starting with “Do tell”…. seriously?
I'm glad you are calling them out. Too many who were outraged and pointed out the sane washing and selective attention displayed by the legacy media have begun to report again using WaPo and NYT articles without any disclaimer that they subscribe so we don't have to (which should be shown Every Time) or reminder that they are sharing very select articles out of a mess of biased ones, and that practice simply encourages readers to dip back into the tainted, red tinted, press pool.
Forgiveness is a wonderful trait when there's remorse and especially when that remorse springs from an inner self examination and recognition that the forgiven party was wrong. Forgetfulness should never be mistaken for forgiveness because the former is a weakness and the latter a strength. The American reader needs their memories refreshed frequently because too many are too prone to forgetting and mistaking weakness with respect to succumbing to lures for forgiveness. That's how we got in this mess in the first place. Too many forgot what 45's first round was like, too many forgot their world history. WaPo (and NYT) were reprehensible and bear a huge part of the responsibility for the current loss of freedoms as well as for however far down this mud slide we go into the foul waters of dictatorship.
Kara Swisher was looking to put together a group to buy the Washington Post, but she also pointed out that it has to be for sale. Bezos loses money on the paper, but I think he sees it as status and cozying up to Trump, so he will probably hang onto it.
Pam Bondi has been a surrogate and was with Trump when he was campaigning in 2015 in Florida. I was working at NBC6 in Miami which is filled with Republican operatives and not real journalists and watched a raw video where one of the anchors greeted Pam Bondi like they were pals before an interview at a hotel in Orlando. This anchor also brought her teen age son to introduce him to Trump because "my son is a big fan of yours." It's one of the most disgusting videos I've ever seen and I was so ashamed to work at this place. Needless to say, I left in 2017...because it got so much worst. So when I hear the phrase liberal media? That's a bunch of BS. There's no liberal media. NBC6 is a want to be mini Fox.
If no one has said this to you (and I hope and believe that they have) -
THANK YOU for standing up for ethics, good journalism and practices.
America (and the world) needs journalists (and librarians)
The Iowa based company, RayGun, for awhile had enameled pins with both of those sentiments. Our son-in-law is a journalist… we have other friends who are journalists AND librarians - we probably gave dozens of those pins to friends over the past decade (also: RayGun needs to bring those back!)
The Washington Post has so very much to apologize for. There may be some real journalists left there with the will and integrity to do so but I doubt very much that they would be allowed.
Remember, John Mitchell went to prison for facilitating Nixon's corruption. We need to take that lesson and make sure Bondi and Trump, and everyone of their participants are tried for their participation in the attempted overthrow of our Constitutional republic!

WTF! They wouldn't endorse Kamala Harris, but they endorse that POS??? DEMOCRACY has died but not in the Dark, in the light of Day.

I also pay to support Marc

They won't. They are too arrogant.
While Cory Booker has recently located a spine, he did vote to confirm Scott Bessant to head Treasury. And Andy Kim, my other Dem senator from New Jersey, voted to confirm Christi Noem for DHS. Jan - thank you for noting that.

The question is begged:
What’s next?
AND THEN what….?
I've been calling my senators and representatives twice a week ever since Trump won the election. Jan - thanks for responding.
We’ve make “one issue” per call since we started calling - back a few months.
We pose a question and ask for a response.
Same w emails and post cards.
The silence on all fronts is… deafening (using an old phrase)
We’re pretty much convinced (here) that they really don’t give a $#it - but yet they continue to ask for $$$
We’re not giving up or shutting up
What state are you in? I'm in New Jersey which is pretty solidly blue except for some areas

We had heard the same…. these are not the adults that we’d point to for our kids or anyone else as “role models”.
And we know (oh how do we know) how Slotkin won.
Buyer’s remorse? We were lied to???
Do tell, how was it that Slotkin won ? Sounds like you might be in Michigan...
Seriously: “DO TELL?”
What do you suggest needs to be told?
Slotkin was viewed as “the better choice” over Rogers - at the time of the election.
Do you have another perspective or suggestions that Rogers would have benefited from the “better” choice? And please show your work as an election consultant as you are starting with “Do tell”…. seriously?
She got more votes?
In theory - yes
Meh
Barely

WaPo is a big disappointment. I'm boycotting Amazon and WaPo. I just worry that some Fox or Sinclair partisan media buys it.
Can We fund some decent, patriotic organization to buy it?
Alas, it has to be for sale.
but… isn’t everything for sale these days? (< grim response and I know that there are people and entities who are NOT for sale - )
but… JFC - this is where we are, eh?
Kara Swisher was looking to put together a group to buy the Washington Post, but she also pointed out that it has to be for sale. Bezos loses money on the paper, but I think he sees it as status and cozying up to Trump, so he will probably hang onto it.
Marliss - I’d seen that
We need to ‘stay tuned’ (in one more way???)

Craven, disgusting.
Come on. WAPO is no longer a reliable source. Nobody is even bothering to pretend.
The Washington Post has so very much to apologize for. There may be some real journalists left there with the will and integrity to do so but I doubt very much that they would be allowed.
How do we the people call for the disbarment of Bondi? To the lawyers out there, are there grounds and is there a process we can facilitate?
Remember, John Mitchell went to prison for facilitating Nixon's corruption. We need to take that lesson and make sure Bondi and Trump, and everyone of their participants are tried for their participation in the attempted overthrow of our Constitutional republic!
Pam the sham
Exactly where do you think the Trump administration gets its ideas?
Hint: not the Constitution.
From your mouth to Jeff Bezos' ear.
WaPo should apologize for not endorsing Harris. They should also apologize for being Bezos’ bitches!
