I may sound like a broken record, but it bears repeating: our media are by and large complicit in Trump’s ascendancy. They have failed us miserably.

Every major institution failed us “bigly.” For example-the courts, the media, Congress, the FBI. Disgusting.

They should call him what he is - a malignant narcissist and list the symptoms?so often, they’re are easily identifiable . As Dr. Bandy Lee says. It’s not political it’s pathological.

No one would listen.

I watched the conference when over 20 of the top psychiatrists said how dangerous he is!

And the media totally ignores the mental health aspect which normalizes abnormality. Everything Trump does is because of his broken brain- his lack of impulse control, his pathological lying, his victim mentality and his need for power and control. ALL SYMPTOMATIC of malignant narcissism.

It only seems fair after everyone, including Democrats, went nuclear on Joe Biden after a lousy debate. Trump has obvious signs of dementia which he inherited from his father. Not a peep from the mainstream media, pathetic and downright dangerous!

Fair coverage would have asserted that both candidates were unfit.

He's been mentally unfit at least since the '80s. He honestly thinks asylum seekers are escapees from mental institutions. I know 12 year olds who don't make that mistake. By all means call it out. But it ain't new. His Covid pressers? Geez.

Somehow, though, this mentally unfit individual is crafty enough to manipulate all around him. I agree that he seems unhinged. He chooses abysmal ignorance rather gaining some modicum of knowledge and education. But why would he bother? He again occupies the White House and with a word and a gesture sends minions scurrying in all directions to do his or Putin's bidding. Appalling, galling, disheartening, but we've no choice other than resist, resist, resist!

Unfortunately, this craftiness is actually fairly common in mentally unfit individuals, not to mention alcoholics, addicts, and clever criminals.

Because they'll immediately be fired, and have no way to write mediocre fluff pieces where they pretend that life is mildly different while it's actually on fire.

ABSOLUTELY! The legacy Fourth Estate has abdicated its duty. We the People are the cavalry. We cannot cease to publicly oppose and loudly condemn the insanity, cruelty and danger of Mad King Donald and his court jesters.

The media is controlled by people who benefit from the moron’s policies. Calling him out would be detrimental to their wealth.

True! The time where media felt a responsibility to report fact based truth to inform the public is long gone. MSM no longer assumes that responsibility. MSM has devolved into its basest element: a profit generating private business enterprise.

Expand full comment
Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

But is it "profit generating"? It seems like the more mainstream news sources, which Trump dubbed "fake news" and which are now falling all over themselves to grovel to him, have lost their base: people who want fair, factual takes on the news. Viewership and readership have plunged. Where is the profit in this?

You make a good point. A good number are money-losing private enterprise sustained by bigoted billionaires. Note that Fox News Channel is licensed as an entertainment channel. So it us not even MSM.

The list of things he has said or done that the media would've made sure destroyed the career of any other politician or candidate now numbers in the hundreds. Whatever one may've thought of Biden's debate performance, if we had a fair, balanced media, it would've been accompanied by an equal number of stories about how incoherent and absurd Trump was. Because he was. His mental unfitness was much more blatant than Biden's, and still is.

Not to mention there was no alternative! I'm wondering, though, what constitutes "the Republican hierarchy" these days. The billionaires, the Federalist Society, the Heritage Foundation, ALEC, the various far-right think tanks?

Without a doubt. Trump kept repeating, "You don't have the cards," to Zelensky. I don't play cards, but I could guess it meant he didn't have all aces or something. He doesn't speak correctly. He doesn't read. It's so evident and it's so pitiful for a President of the United States to be so uneducated and so crass. Neither Trump nor Musk have any idea how government works.

He is mentally unfit to be president, but he is useful for Stephen Miller and Project 2025's agenda. He is also useful to the oligarchs, particularly Elon Musk and Peter Thiel (who has his protege, Vance, waiting in the wings). And he is useful to Republican Senators and Representatives who care more about power than their country.

A large gong should be placed anywhere 2 Democrats meet. If loud enough it might wake them up too. Just look at the numbers who verified Trump's Cabinet and you will see those on the front line are asleep. If not, they need to be "outed" as MAGA Democrats. They think they can fool voters into thinking they are "fighting Trump" when the truth is they want to MakeitAllGoAway!

Before anyone continues to sabotage our own side and ability to fight by attacking Democrats, they need to lay out a specific plan of what they expect Democrats can do.
