The most sickening thing of all from the Jon Stewart show about the WHCD was his clip of members of the press, including, for God's sake, Wolf Blitzer, saying how funny Trump was, what a great sense of humor he had! The MSM has lost their way, as their audience and credibility circles the toilet. It's not just the WHCD, the MSM as a whole is in thrall to this depraved degenerate and there better be some fierce accountability when this nightmare is over, assuming it ever is. In the meantime the MSM is busy propping up this nightmare because, gee, he's POTUS after all, and the guy is such a cutup!
I agree he's not "joking" – that's the media's way of trying to convince us he's not as vile as he is but just making funny. But there's also a danger in taking these statements way too literally. He says a lot of these things I think because he NEEDS to believe them and is trying to convince himself even if they're not possible and he has no way of making them happen. But as for "joking," he doesn't joke. The media is trying to fabricate a side of him that doesn't exist.
Smart people aren't always funny, but genuinely funny people are always smart and usually self-aware. Trump is none of those things. He's just a thug who thinks humiliating people is the height of comedy and cries "it was a joke!" like a third-grader when he's caught in a lie or an embarrassing situation.
It's so hard to tell when Trump is doing his handlers' bidding and when he's embarrassing the hell out of them. We *do* need to take what he says seriously, but I don't think we need to take all of it *literally*.
One challenge here is that for decades we haven't really taken Republican presidents themselves seriously. Behind Bush II there was Cheney. Behind Bush I -- hmm, I can't really remember. Reagan -- Rumsfeld? Ashcroft? I like to blame Kissinger for everything, but that's not right either.
