Totally agree, Mark. It’s fine if reporters feel their job is to get candidates off message. But candidates’ aim, rightly, is to stay on message. Looks like Harris “won” this round and Politico blames her for its failure.
Remember how confused Dana Bash was when Harris didn't take her bait question about Trump questioning her Blackness? Harris is very, very good at sticking to the point. You'd think the smarter media people would have figured this out by now. (And the fact that Politico hasn't -- well, draw your own conclusions about that. <g>)
This is the same media that for years have praised Republicans for their discipline and for sticking to their messages, and not just in campaigns. They always mocked Democrats for being “in disarray” which was a criticism of people in the party having different ideas about what should be done. Now they are carping about a candidate who is steadfast about her own beliefs about what the important issues are.
This is also the same mainstream “liberal” media that complained when Democrats like Gore, Clinton and Hillary talked about policy — too boring — but now I see complaints about voters needing more policy info, more “fine print” from Harris.
Meanwhile her opponent is all over the place. Recently he was talking about solving California’s water problem by turning Canada’s giant faucet — which takes a whole day — so that their water can flow down to LA. Most of the media can’t even be bothered reporting about that.
tRUMPS remarks about Kamala during the debate and elsewhere are off center….yeah, I know it’s the creature, but the creature was speaking as if Kamala was ALREADY president; his remarks should have been addressed to Biden! Biden was not there, of course, so creatures’ remarks should have been directed to Kamala {Ka má la} as the candidate she was….not asking why SHE [such disrespect….he is creature now…he-is not a man…I would not insult real men in that way…. ] did this or that….BIDEN did it!
Did you actually read the article? They didn't want her to talk about Haniball Lechter, or sharks or any other stuff Trump talked about. Of course she wasn't going to say anything about Israel. Too bad she wasn't asked straight out why she is supporting a genocide

Politico can always go talk to
the orange menace if they
want someone way off
message.
I went to a Rolling Stones concert and they played all their old hits again. Boy was I pissed!
Ah, journalists... If only they would learn that our words, as the embodiment of our thoughts, have power.
The reverse is equally true, of course: the words a person utters are an indication of how vacuous the mind of that person might be.

I never read/listen to Politico.
I never do, but I did read this. I think Mark and Steve were way off target
