With the anticipated thousands [million+?]] of heroic protestors on April 5th (actually any and all days!) here's an updated partial list of those fighting back every day [as of 3-24-25). I'm also adding courageous law firms who haven't caved. Besides upstanding lawyers, and law-abiding honorable (present and former) judges (including James Boasberg, chief judge, D.C. District Ct.), here's a growing list of Profiles in Courage men, women, and advocacy groups who refuse to be cowed or kneel to the force of Trump/Musk/MAGA/Fox "News" intimidation:

I'll begin (again) with Missouri's own indomitable Jess[ica] (à la John Lewis's "get in good trouble") Piper, then, in no particular order, Heather Cox Richardson, Joyce Vance, Bernie Sanders, AOC, Gov. Tim walz, Sarah Inama, Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, Jasmine Crockett, Ruth Ben-Ghait, Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O'Donnell, Chris Hayes, Ali Velshi, Stephanie Miller, Gov. Janet Mills, Gov. Beshear, Jim Acosta, Jen Rubin And the Contrarians, Dan Rather, Robert Reich, Steve Brodner, Rachel Cohen, Brian TylerCohen, Jessica Craven, Scott Dworkin, Annne Applebaum, Lucian Truscott IV, Chris Murphy, Jeff Merkley, Elizabeth Warren, Tim Snyder, Robert B. Hubbell, Ben Meiseilas, Rich wilson, Ron Filpkowski, Jeremy Seahill, Thom Hartmann, Jonathan Bernstein, Simon Rosenberg, Marianne Williamson, Mark Fiore, Jamie Raskin, Rebecca Solnit, Steve Schmidt, Josh Marshall, Paul Krugman, Andy Borowitz, Jeff Danziger, Ann Telnaes,͏ ͏Will Bunch, Jim Hightower, Dan Pfeifer, Dean Obeidallah--

American Bar Association, Indivisible. FiftyFifty one, MoveOn, DemCast, Blue Missouri, Third Act, Democracy Forward, Public Citizen, Democracy Index, Hands Off, Marc Elias/Democracy Docket, Public Citizen, League of Women Voters Lambda Legal, CREW, CODEPINK, ACLU et al. And, as Joyce Vance says, "We're in this together"--or via Jess Piper, from rural Missouri: "Solidarity." FIGHT BACK! WE ARE NOT ALONE! (Latest addition h/t , Robert B. Hubbell: Law firms, see below). All suggestions are welcome.

* Perkins Coie and Covington & Burling have resisted Trump, fighting back with the help of other courageous firms like Williams & Connolly. Per The ABA Journal,

Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, representing fired inspectors general. (Law.com)

Hogan Lovells, seeking to block executive orders to end federal funding for gender-affirming medical care. (Law.com)

Jenner & Block, also seeking to block the orders on cuts to medical research funding. (Law.com, Reuters)

Ropes & Gray, also seeking to block cuts to medical research funding. (Law.com)

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, representing the Amica Center for Immigrants Rights and others seeking to block funding cuts for immigrant legal services. (Law.com)

Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer.

I would love to see April 5th “Hands Off” protests in towns you’d least expect, organized by locals who call out their media and elected officials.

The number and intensity of protests have been inspirational. More than 200 people protested at the last weekly Tesla Takedown in Kansas City. But we all have to realize that the protests are the means not the end for change. Outraged citizens need to commit themselves to actively participating in at least one campaign during this election cycle by knocking on doors, phone banking or donating. Here in Missouri that means focusing on state elections to try and erase the Republicans' super majority in our horrible legislature in Jefferson City.

A number of friends and I have signed on to attend the large protest that will be held in downtown Los Angeles on April 5. Please visit https://www.mobilize.us/handsoff/ to find a rally near you. If you live a distance away from the nearest one, plan one in your local community yourself.

It is imperative that we mobilize in numbers that are large enough, and to keep doing so, until we bring this fascist regime down. We, the People, have the power to hold the fascist to account. But if we fail, forget the notion of elections at the end of 2026: the regime will call them off under one pretext or another in order to cement its power.

And use the 1000s of open mics at all government meetings to share your stories and demand that elected officials properly REPRESENT their community on rights, supports, and the economic impacts that their constituents are facing.

Elected officials can't hide from their responsibilities.

OperationSunshine.info is there to assist.

Power to the people!

I boycotted Amazon for one week, then decided to continue through Lent.

It’s not easy but so far feels right.

I’ve been unsubscribing from newsletters that go after Democrats while Trump and Musk tear this country apart. This one is too important to me. But let me say that Bernie misses no opportunity to bash Democrats and his tour is a mixed blessing at best. My own Congressman Bill Keating, gaveled a house committee meeting to a close when Republicans refused to address Congresswoman Sarah McBride with respect. He has been holding town meetings regularly and speaking out forcefully. So has Chris Murphy. And many more. You know better than most the Democrats don’t get the coverage they need from the press. They are about the entity left bravely standing up to Trump, and I intend to stand with them. WE can let them govern and do their business in their states while WE protest and lead others to do the same.

When we give energy to unseating an elected Democrat, we are taking energy from electing more. Susan Crawford in Wisconsin, Josh Weil, and Gay Valimont in Florida, have elections coming next Tuesday that could have an immense effect on our situation. Please don’t join Bernie in suggesting that Democrats aren’t worth voting for. Too many people have bought that, and the disinformation narrative based on it. Its one reason we’re in this position now.

Boycotting businesses is an easy step to take. Any reason why you mention just Tesla & Uline? Why not list a bunch?

Big supporter of Democracy Docket here. I'm firmly behind independent journalism, and would add The Atlantic, Mother Jones, and Rolling Stones to journalism deserving recognition. Here in Nebraska we have a burgeoning non-profit independent news source, Flatwater Free Press, that is writing excellent investigative stories of Nebraska issues. Our legislature, a Unicameral, is supposed to be non-partisan but the last 2 governors have bought seats for MAGA Republicans, slanting it to the far right. I'm sorry that the only way to reverse course is bodies in the street, because it appears that protesting is becoming dangerous.

I live in Las Vegas and subscribe to "the Review-Journal", which includes a section called "the Las Vegas SUN". The Review-Journal leans so far to the right that it makes the Leaning Tower of Pisa look verticle. Stories and opinions in the R-J include plenty of misinformation and twisted interpretations of anything Democratic. Joe Biden is a favorite punching bag, claiming that everyone knew Biden was feeble and incompetent when he was first inaugurated - the R-J being willfully ignorant of the mental problems exhibited by Trump since 2015 and the deterioration to the present. My blood pressure goes up when I read the R-J because they are so blatantly one-sided, making no effort to see any other points of view. The Las Vegas SUN, on the other hand, leans left. Since the SUN is part of the R-J, I can't just scrap the subscription. I believe in supporting local news media and I have had letters published in the R-J when I get angry enough to respond. So, how do I deal with this? I also have a subscription to the Post, because the reporting is not as bad as the Bezos-approved opinion pages. Where else can we get nation-side news? I have substack subscriptions, too, but a good newspaper (the Washington Post USED to be one) is harder to find as we plunge into the authoritarian muck.
