“Downright alarmist”. 🤬 So sick of both-sidism bs. With all of the insane, authoritarian wrongdoings going on, if any of us has the audacity to warn or object, WE’RE the crazy ones. Well done, media. 🙄
Thank you for not equivocating, for using the correct vocabulary. Regime, not administration. Fascist. Words trumpwellian media will never use in the context of dear dictator.
Speaking of NYT atrocities, their SOTU commentaries gave the impression they were using their own opinion writers. But to get two writers praising Trump, they had to import two right wingers, including one from the Heritage Foundation, to provide a phony balance. I'm not sure either is even an occasional contributor. This was dishonest. If Trump couldn't get any kudos from any of the Times' regular opinion writers, perhaps it's because he didn't deserve any?
I know it’s difficult being in the Minority..and maybe they are energetically running around in the background doing… something…but except for a very few outspoken…it seems they are lax and late on some of the pressing issues:
Thank you for the article. President Trump is not king but a person who thinks is king! Trump is at his point where he should be locked up in a mental institution! We already had an agreement with Iran signed by President Obama. I was listening to Jim Acosta show the total is up to six dead ! Many are wounded. Congress is perhaps to act and afraid of this President. We shall see tomorrow whether or not all of this carnage will continue. Please subscribe to Stop the presses.
It is frustrating, but parts of the system are holding him in check, for now. We need to work toward Democratic majorities everywhere, from local to state to federal.
Who is going to stop him? Pardon me if I am now finding No Kings parades rather useless. Look at history. I’m not advocating for violence - but no fascist regime was ever stopped bc of peaceful marches or voting 🗳️ our way out of it. If I’m wrong I’ll be thrilled and admit I was wrong. But the only way out of this is to cut the head off the 🐍. Who’s going to even get close enough?
Really it’s the Fascists behind him that are the problem. And there are many of them. Never in a million years did I think what I’m thinking. But never in a million years did I think I’d be alive to watch a “President” kill at will, indiscriminately, and he likely gets off on it. He’s a sadist and psychopath and as much as we want him gone it is going to take external forces. And then move on to the Voughts, the Millers, etc. They all need to go. Escorted out. Into another world.
The last No Kings likely helped turn out the vote in last November's elections. It also bothered Trump enough that he tore down the East Wing of the White House. A No Kings Rally is a great opportunity to register voters or help voters check their registration. The marches also help people to realize that they are not alone.
Yes, it gets discouraging. We have to remember that ousting the Republicans and Trump is made up of many small actions that combine together to achieve our goal. On the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's Ride, Heather Cox Richardson did a piece where she talked about how the actions of so many people made a difference at Lexington and Concord, whether it was borrowing a key to the Old North Church or joining the ride, as Dr. Samuel Prescott did on his way home from courting a woman he hoped to marry. While Revere and Dawes were stopped, Prescott was not. All of us want to look for the one big moment, but really, it is a lot of moments that lead to change, even when a big moment happens. Hang in there!
I read that! She is such a lifeline - a truly amazing woman. The American Revolution has always been one of my favorite periods in this country’s history (flaws and all) but that column was so inspiring!
In addition to her Letters from an American, she also does a Politics Chat on Tuesdays and Thursdays on YouTube (also on Facebook, but I don't do Facebook) at around 6 p.m. live but available after that on YouTube. Her conversations with Joanne Freeman, another historian on Saturday mornings, usually around 10:30 a.m., but also available later on YouTube are great. Joanne Freeman does a "A Few thoughts for those who can't sleep" on YouTube some nights as well.
I'm also a fan of the American Revolution and hope to start reading The British are Coming soon.

Yes
I feel my Democrats are often sleep-walking.

He talked about it before-hand and we should know by now to pay attention to his words and prepare.
Not a soul will defend them. Americans are in trouble

We have an extinct constitutional order. The forms remain, the reality is completely new.

I am frustrated day after day — he gets away with everything. Where the fuck are our laws?? Who is keeping a check on him?

This is true. Pardon me, sometimes my cynicism gets the better of me…I appreciate people reminding me not to fall into that pit of despair.
