Welp, I AM suggesting that Graeme Wood wants to maintain that level of conflict. I've been an avid media activist since the GWB years. And while there are some great journalists still working for legacy/corporate media, I can no longer give them my eyeballs and ears or I'm complicit in what I bitch about. The last few weeks of media complicity in the political madness have sealed the deal. I'm done. I'm now looking to folks like you and other independent media that are forging a new path. (And I hope others do the same.)
Ditto. I dropped my NYT sub after 2016, continued with WaPo, and am not renewing when my sub ends. The last few weeks have been this unrelenting drumbeat of negativity about President Biden in particular but the Democrats more generally as well. Don't they get that the 1st Amendment it at stake in this election??
No, it would be better for the media. Media hate it when Dems are united and excited. The media are toxic and dangerous and one of the positive outcomes of this whole Biden stepping down is the overwhelming anger and disgust towards the bullying and anti Biden propaganda media were spewing. I've been disgusted with them for years and I haven't watched "news" for years. The current media infrastructure including the cable TV opinion model need to be destroyed. I try to support as much independent media as I am able.
Mark and Steve -- THANK YOU for your comments on the Graeme Wood piece. That's exactly what I was thinking when I read it, in disbelief, the day before. What, he's hoping for a reprise of the 1968 Chicago convention? Thank you both for all you do to call out bad faith articles by press and pundits. I've been terribly disappointed by the Atlantic's skewed coverage of the election -- by my count, has been running about 4 or 5 negative stories about Bien/Dems to 1 negative story about Trump/MAGA/GOP. Sadly ,it used to be a good publication.
Oops. It looks like Mr. Woods has only succeeded in making his name and half baked ideas part of the story. That can't be a road to journalistic excellence, can it? One less chit in his credibility account.
I've subscribed to The Atlantic, NYT and WaPo for decades. Now I can barely glance at any of them. It's not journalism if you can't trust what they say anymore. I'm finally going to unsubscribe from all. Better quality information and discussion on Substack!
Funny thing, my sister just told me to read an Atlantic story by Jonathan Rauch. I haven't got to it yet but I could tell it wasn't because she liked it.

Good for you!

Graeme Wood's article, it seems to me, has been written more with petulance than sense.

In otherwords, Kamala Kicks!
There’s no news without the conflict. It’s one of those “what do we do now” moments for both, Trump and the news media!

Going by comments on Threads, The Atlantic has become famous for spectacularly bad takes on nearly everything
