This is right to the point. A reader can't evaluate the veracity, biases, and intentions of an unnamed source. This has an absolutely corrosive effect on media trust. It's not enough for reporters to just say, Trust us.

The JD Vance story clearly does not pass the smell test. He is trying to distance himself from the Iran War so he can try to disavow it when he runs in 2028. The story rings as hollow as these quotes about Congressional toadies who supposedly are privately appalled by Trump but feel politically too vulnerable to say so. A lot of good that does the American people! Also, good for you in asking for the identity of the alleged three sources. Tim Miller interviewed Jonathan Swan about 2 months ago. Swan became very defensive when Miller questioned Vance's motives and, essentially, why they believed the alleged accounts were true. I don't think Swan came off well.

I know people are down on Haberman and Swan. My son certainly was, but they really give us the goods on this cancerous regime that infects our government and if it's a little later than we'd like that's okay.
