Mark, you hit every nail on the head regarding the media selling its soul , and enriching Trump through ridiculous lawsuits for access. Thank you

Great piece Agree that this is one of the top two or three reasons why democracy is in peril. But can I ask: Is there evidence that the public will choose accurate news reports over reports that feature a celebrity guest?

This is not the first time the Press has played along. During the Fukushima meltdowns, Tokyo electric did the same thing to the reporters that were covering the disasters. Public relations people at Tokyo electric were forbidden to use the word “melt down” and to maintain access, the Japanese press went along with the charade. If the reporters had properly reported the magnitude of the disaster, they would have lost access to Tokyo electric. I wrote a book about the meltdowns in 2012, so this issue is in my wheelhouse.

Any Exclusive with Trump & Company Comes with a Loss of the Reporter's Integrity

It's not just the access, it's the fucking perks. Swag bags and mugs and gimme caps and patches for your jackets. The seat on the plane, the seat at the bar on the plane, these are the trinkets for which your democracy is being sold.

I can surly do without this "access". I can't stand to watch Trump, Bessent, Hegseth, Vance.... ANY of them talk. What is going on with this administration riles me up enough without having to watch these liars, arrogant pampas asses and idiots treat Americans like they are ignorant. (I know some are, but they talk like everyone is). What angers me the most is that not a single other reporter says anything when one of their own is insulted for asking a perfectly legitimate question. I would love to see even one re-ask a question that prompted one of these insults. Thank you, Mark.

Mark, this might only serve to have you collapsing on the floor in hysterical laughter, but please allow me to ask anyway: do you think there's even the slightest chance (a little more than, say, a snowflake's in hell) of being able to put together a consortium to purchase The Washington Post with the goal of installing you as Editor-In-Chief in order to ensure its independence?

(Just asking for millions of desperate friends...)

Your comments apply not just politicians but to, for example, some well-known authors who trade exclusives for coverage of their books. Thanks!

Access means nothing if all you do is parrot the party line and ask innocuous questions.

If corp. media gets any more compliant, they'll be mistaken for members of the oldest profession. Oh, wait...
